Ulver began in Oslo in 1993 as a folkloric black metal project (the Bergtatt trilogy, drawn from Norwegian fairy tale and the motif of being taken into the mountain) before moving on into wholly other music. The early work is one of the most literary moments of the scene.
Catalogued across Music, ambient, and Norse folklore. The image is Theodor Kittelsen's folklore painting, the visual canon the early records share. Reference entry, not a release. Reference.
