The Canon

Beneath the Machine runs a canon: the literary and sacred texts that set its register and its memory, read in the order they were written. From the old theogonies and the scriptures of the world, through Dante and Milton, to the decadent and symbolist line that the platform carries forward, these are the works the imagination is built on.

Where a work is in the public domain, it is linked to a free edition, on the platform itself where one already lives here, or to a free full text elsewhere. The few modern works still in copyright are named without a link.
